Mukesh Ambani, the billionaire who defies Jeff Bezos

Mukesh Ambani
Born in Aden (Yemen) in 1957, Ambani’s ambitions are planetary. Heir (along with brother Adil Ambani) to the oil and gas empire founded by his father, he invested billions in telecommunications and technology to make India one of the leaders of the fourth industrial revolution in digital technology. The August acquisition of Future Group (1,800 stores, including Big Bazaar supermarkets and Pantaloons fashion stores), attracted the wrath of Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon. Almost as wealthy (US$79.7 billion) as Warren Buffet in Forbes’ ranking (2020), Mukesh Ambani is defying Amazon’s ambitious plans for the Indian market.
