Ikea. What projects are active in China and the U.S.?
The world’s leading furniture retailer Ikea unveiled principal strategies for China, where it operates 30 stores and 3 shopping centres in Beijing, Wuxi and Wuhan. In the Beijing mall, traffic in April 2020 reached 67% compared to 2019, with 81% in Wuxi compared to 2019. However, customers are far slower to return in Wuhan. According to Gerard Groener, Managing Director of Ingka Centres, (the property arm of the Group’s shopping centres), current vacancy rates only slightly increased in China, with waiting lists for the 3 units.
An interesting aspect of its digital strategy is how, after leaving the U.SA. Amazon marketplace site in November 2019, Ikea partnered with Alibaba.
