Uyghurs. SMCP, Inditex, Uniqlo and Skechers up against the wall
At the end of June, France opened an investigation against Inditex, SMCP (Sandro, Maje, Claudie Pierlot), Uniqlo and Skechers, following a complaint filed in April by three non-governmental organisations. The application accuses the companies of concealing crimes against humanity.
While Uniqlo and Skechers did not comment, the other companies denied sourcing products made with forced labor in the Xinjiang region. “We strongly refute these accusations,” Inditex said in a statement. “We are conducting rigorous traceability checks and intend to cooperate fully with the French authorities to confirm that the allegations are unfounded.” SMCP formulated the same answer.
